Commencement Date and Time

Commencement is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and will not exceed 2 1/2 hours. Please arrive at the Memorial Auditorium no later than 1:15 p.m. to assemble for the academic processional. See map here. The City of Sacramento has multiple options for pre-purchase parking — visit their website to browse those options. There is no secure storage space, so please leave purses, etc. in the trunk of your car. The doors open for guests at 12:30 p.m. Seating is open and unreserved.

Commencement Keynote Speaker

We are proud to announce that the Honorable Dana M. Sabraw, ’85, of the United States District Court, Southern District of California will serve as the graduation speaker this year. Learn more about Judge Sabraw.

Student Speakers

Graduate speakers will represent the class of 2019 — one to represent the JD program and one to represent the Graduate programs. The speaker selection process will be announced mid-spring semester.

Caps, Gowns, Class Rings & Announcements

Cap and gown rentals are provided to you by McGeorge at no cost. Please visit the Bookstore beginning Monday, April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays to check out your cap and gown. On Monday, April 29, and Tuesday, April 30, you may pick up your cap and gown at the Bookstore until 6:30 p.m. The gowns will be laundered, but you are encouraged to have them pressed prior to Commencement. Class Rings and Announcements are provided by Balfour, the University’s preferred vendor. Order information can be obtained in the Bookstore.

Commencement Informational Session

A Commencement Informational Session will be hosted in the Lecture Hall on Wednesday, May 15 at 5:45 p.m. and will be repeated on Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m. These sessions should last approximately 30 minutes. Please try to attend the rehearsal that is most convenient for your schedule.


Diplomas will not be in the case you receive as you cross the stage during the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed directly to your mailing address on file with the Office of the Registrar. For LLM graduates expecting to travel soon after Commencement, diplomas will be available immediately after the ceremony.

Reception on McGeorge Campus

Immediately following commencement, an open-house reception will be held on the campus in your honor. You and your guests are cordially invited to attend the wine and hors d'oeuvres reception. The campus will be open for touring.
