PhD in law at University of Vienna, 1980
Dr. Wolfgang Brandstetter earned a PhD in law at University of Vienna in 1980, after which he served as a research assistant at Habilitation.
During his career as a defense attorney from 1993-2013, he was a professor of criminal law at University of Vienna (1997-2007), and served as the head of the Institute for European and Austrian Criminal Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (2008-2013).
Starting in 2013, he served as the Minister of Justice Republic of Austria, and he was the country’s 2017 Vice Chancellor.
He is currently serving as Judge, Constitutional Court of the Republic of Austria, as well as Special Advisor to the Commissioner of Justice of the European Union, and Professor of Criminal Law, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administrations.
