Gage Marchini was born and raised in the central valley to a family of farmers. When California entered a drought while he was pursuing his undergraduate degree at Fresno State, he realized that he wanted to study law so that he could fight to protect the water rights of farmers.

He decided to attend McGeorge because of its water and environmental law program and setting in Sacramento where California's environmental policy decisions are made. "Sacramento is the hot spot where these decisions are made. It just makes sense to be in Sacramento and to meet the people who I hope to work with."

Marchini hopes to represent agricultural, water and irrigation districts. He is fascinated by environmental law and loves the exhilarating rush of presenting evidence and arguments through mock trials. It was at a mock trial with his team from Fresno State that Marchini realized that he could be a talented lawyer.

Now, he serves on McGeorge's mock trial team and says that the experience has been the crowning jewel of his education. "It has been such a great experience to work with everyday practicing attorneys to analyze cases and craft arguments. It has been fun to travel and compete."

Marchini has also enjoyed the opportunity to serve as a summer associate at Herum Crabtree, a civil law firm that also handles land use and bankruptcy cases as well as cases surrounding water and agriculture law.

After he graduates, Marchini hopes to pass the bar and then travel. "I try to squeeze in trips whenever I can. I'm going to Italy in a week and a half. I love to go to new places and experience other cultures." Marchini also enjoys hiking with his labradoodle and refurbishing furniture. His current pet project is an armoire that he hopes to convert into a bar.
