Adrian Carpenter currently works as Staff Counsel for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In her position she oversees the administration of the inmate appeals process for inmates and parolees within the State of California. Prior to her position within the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation she was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to serve as a Panel Member for the Cannabis Control Appeals Panel. In 2017, Ms. Carpenter was a deputy legal affairs secretary in the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. She served as a Deputy City Attorney in the Sacramento City Attorney’s Office from 2014 to 2017 and as a Deputy District Attorney in the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office from 2012 to 2014, where she was a law clerk in 2011.

Ms. Carpenter was a judicial extern for the Honorable Saundra B. Armstrong at the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California in 2010 and a certified law clerk at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office from 2009 to 2010. She was a certified law clerk at the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office in 2009, a summer associate at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy and Bass LLP in 2008 and a Capital Fellows Program judicial administration fellow at the Sacramento County Superior Court from 2006 to 2007. She is past-president of the Wiley W. Manuel Bar Association and a member of the California Bar Foundation, Los Rios Foundation Board, a California Assembly Delegate, and President and C.E.O of Potential Partners.

She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Politics from Occidental College, a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Northridge, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco, School of Law.
