University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law hosted its first Unity Graduation Celebration May 17 in the Lecture Hall.

The multicultural graduation event honored the law school's diverse graduates by featuring their academic successes, unique journeys through law school and entry into the increasingly diverse legal profession. The following day, May 18, McGeorge held its commencement ceremony at the Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento.

McGeorge students, led by Whitney Jenkins, came together to create the celebration for our graduating students from traditionally underrepresented populations. The students invited friends and families to come together to honor and celebrate graduates’ accomplishments cultures.

The event opened with bhangra dancers, moved into a mariachi band, and honored a variety of cultures. Speakers included Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz and alumna Carmen-Nicole Cox.

McGeorge is glad to join schools across the nation in hosting this type of graduation celebration. Organizers are planning to make this an annual event.
