The McGeorge Mock Trial team started its fall season with impressive performances in the first two competitions.

In the inaugural "Battle of the Experts" competition this past weekend at Drexel University's Thomas R. Kline School of Law in Philadelphia, Penn., Mock Trial team members Allison Wieder, Davis Adams, Simone Leighty and Chelsea Givens were finalists. The team was coached by alumni Jason Schaff, '06, and Leland Washington, '01.

This invitational tourney was unique in that skilled mock trial coaches from around the country, including Schaff and Washington, presided over and scored each round. At the end of four preliminary rounds, McGeorge was alone in winning all four, putting the school in first place. The McGeorge team lost to Samford University's Cumberland School of Law in the final round.

Two weeks ago at the Mockingbird Challenge in Montgomery, Ala., team member Adriana Garcia Barba was awarded "Best Opening Statement. In total, 48 students gave opening statements during the competition. Her team mates were David Anguiano, Sam Hibbs and Toni Linarez.
