Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid Tracy Simmons

University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid Tracy Simmons was selected as a recipient of the inaugural CLEO EDGE Award in Diversity. Fifty (50) honorees were chosen from more than 200 prominent nominees for their accomplishments.

CLEO has recognized Dean Simmons' passionate and tireless commitment to diversity in legal education and the legal profession. Dean Simmons has worked in law school admissions, financial aid and diversity initiatives for more than 19 years. She has served as a consultant for the CLEO Achieving Success in the Application Process program for over nine years.

The Annual Meeting of Law School Diversity Professionals (AMLSDP) also received a CLEO EDGE Award in Diversity. Director of Admissions Jermaine Cruz has been a member of the AMLSDP executive planning committee for the past eight years, and McGeorge hosted the 2016 meeting of the organization.

The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, Inc. (CLEO) is widely renowned for its mission to increase the number of lawyers from diverse backgrounds. CLEO created these recognition awards to promote its focus on the three pillars or characteristics which undergird the organization's purpose and in recognition of its 50th anniversary. Those pillars are Education, Diversity, and Greater Equality.

"We are pleased with the response we have received from the legal academy, bar associations, law firms, and other organizations," said Cassandra Sneed Ogden, Chief Executive Officer of CLEO. "Diversity and inclusion are important to CLEO, the legal profession, and our nation. We believe these 50 leaders appreciate and value diversity in all its forms."

Promoting a diverse and inclusive culture is one of Pacific's values, so this award aligns perfectly with the priorities of the university.

McGeorge Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz was selected to join the inaugural class of CLEO EDGE Honorees for his outstanding contributions in the field of Education. These honorees will be showcased during CLEO's Awards Gala on November 15, 2018, at the Ritz Carlton-Washington.
