McGeorge alumnus Vernon “Gene” Leverty, ’70, was officially sworn in as President of the State Bar of Nevada at the 2017 Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 29. He is the fifth McGeorge alumni to serve as president of the organization. Leverty was also honored with the Nevada Bar Foundation Service Award during the meeting.
Leverty is principal of Leverty & Associates Law in Reno and is an active personal injury trial lawyer with 35 years of litigation, trial and negotiation experience. Leverty was the Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Nevada from 1972-1979, and in 1979 he joined the law firm of Miller & Daar where he served for 10 years as a partner. Leverty is the fifth McGeorge alumnus to serve as president of the State Bar of Nevada. Larry Digesti, ’76, served as president for the 2015-2016 term. Bruce Beesley, ’78, served as president in the 2008-2009 term, Judge Andrew Puccinelli, ’78, served as president for the 1998-99 term and Las Vegas attorney Vince Consul, ’80, led the organization for the 2005-06 term.
