McGeorge School of Law's Diversity Week 2017, an Admissions/Diversity Initiatives Annual Program, kicked off on Monday, Feb. 13 at 12:30 p.m. on the Quad. The theme for this year's Diversity Week is "Celebrating Diversity, Embracing Unity," and exciting community activities are planned through Friday, Feb. 17.

The Diversity Week 2017 events are sponsored by Asian/Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA), Black Law Student Association (BLSA), Latino/a Law Students Association (LLSA), Jewish Law Students Association (JLSA), Lambda, Middle Eastern & South Asian Association (MESAA), Women's Caucus, SacLEGAL, Diversity Affairs Committee, Faculty Research and Admissions/Diversity Initiatives.

Diversity Week Events

Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Quad/Student Center
Diversity Week Kick—Off — FREE FOOD, and music and entertainment provided by LLSA. Also, check out the various events each diversity organization has planned for the week at their tables and talk to representatives from community organizations such as Sacramento Food Bank regarding possible internships.

Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. | Classroom A
"The New Jim Crow" — A discussion and showing of the 13th, a documentary about slavery, Jim Crow, criminalization and links in a chain of racial inequality, forged by political and economic motive.

Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 from Noon to 1 p.m. | Quad/Student Center
WEAVE — Walk a Mile in her Shoes

Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Student Center
International Food Fair — Join us as we celebrate diversity by eating our way around the world. $7 per plate and you get to try everything! All proceeds are donated to the McGeorge Faculty Diversity Scholarship and will be matched dollar for dollar through the Powell Matching Gift Fund.

Prejudice Today and How to Respond: A Panel Discussion on Ways to Get Legally and Politically Involved. A MESAA and JLSA Joint event — With the continuation of hate crimes and prejudice on the rise, it's time to build bridges between marginalized communities who are affected. This panel brings together community leaders who actively fight against prejudice and hate crimes on a day to day, and through their expertise will help suggest effective ways law students, future lawyers, and the community can make a difference. Food will be served.

Salary Negotiation for Women — Want to learn how to ask for more money? Want to make as much money as your coworkers? Come join Women's Caucus and the CDO to learn how to negotiate your salary. There are many myths about women not knowing how to negotiate a salary — learn how to debunk them all. Food will be provided.

"Protecting and Expanding LGBT Rights in the Trump Era" — Kate Kendell, Esq., Executive Director, National Center for Lesbian Rights.

Annual Culture Night — Come join us as we close Diversity Week 2017 on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 in the Student Center! There will be food, drinks, auction items and fun! Come network with alumni, faculty and fellow students. All proceeds go directly to the Diversity Scholarship!
