VCRC Leader Receives NCVLI Legal Advocacy Award

The National Crime Victims Law Institute (NCVLI) announced Mariam El-menshawi, ’11, as the recipient of the organization’s 2016 Legal Advocacy Award. NCVLI’s Legal Advocacy Award recognizes crime victims’ rights attorneys who have dedicated and committed their time to representing victims of crime in the criminal justice system.

El-menshawi is the director and principal attorney at the Victims of Crime Resource Center (VCRC), which is located on the McGeorge campus. The VCRC has operated the State of California's confidential, toll-free 1-800-VICTIMS line since 1984 and also runs the website,

"McGeorge School of Law has a long history of providing services to crime victims," said El-menshawi. "I hope to continue to grow and foster our statewide leadership in victim services."

El-menshawi was recently inducted into two statewide committees as the expert in “Legal Services to Crime Victims:” the California Office of Emergency Services VOCA Steering Committee and the California Office of Emergency Services STOP Violence against Women Implementation Committee. She is also currently the co-chair of the Sacramento Human Trafficking Legal Forum.
