The CIR is a nonpartisan, objective publication which provides comprehensive, independent analyses of California Ballot initiatives and related issues. The review is published each year by the Capital Center for Law & Policy and is presented to the public at the McGeorge California Initiative Forum. The CIR and the "Initiatives at a Glance" supplement are written by law students enrolled in the California Initiative Seminar course at McGeorge School of Law. This fall 22 students were enrolled in the seminar, and they evaluated each of the 17 statewide measures featured on the November 8, 2016 ballot. Editing of each analysis is performed by student editors under Professor Mary-Beth Moylan's supervision.
"We hosted the California Initiative Review Forum on Tuesday, October 25 at 5 p.m. at the Lecture Hall," said Professor Moylan. "Printed copies of the CIR, as well as brief 'Initiatives at a Glance' were available. We were happy to see a large turnout of fellow students, faculty and interested citizens at the forum."
Several of the students participated in a preview of the California Initiative Review Forum on Saturday, Oct. 8 to a large community gathering at the Sylvan Oaks Public Library in a forum sponsored by the AAUW Citrus Heights-American River Branch. Professor Moylan presented the California Initiative Review to the Sacramento Rotary Club on Oct. 25 as well.
