Levine Gives Talks on Marriage Equality at Chilean Conferences

Professor Lawrence C. Levine was invited to give a talk on marriage equality at two recent conferences in Chile. He gave both talks in Spanish.

The first conference was held in conjunction with the Universidad of Chile School of Law in Santiago on Nov. 28, 2016, and more than 100 Chilean law professors, law students, government officials, and some community advocates for LGBT rights attended. Professor Levine participated on a panel entitled "Reconocimiento del Matrimonio Igualitario en el Derecho Comparado," which focused on comparative law perspectives on marriage equality. He was joined on the panel by an Argentine law professor and a Spanish law professor. Professor Levine's 40 minute presentation focused on marriage equality in the United States. On Dec. 2, he spoke at the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia international seminar "Matrimonio Igualitario. Hacia la igualdad de derechos en Chile."

Professor Levine has authored several books and articles on the subject of Torts, and is a frequent panelist, lecturer, and speaker on legal issues involving sexual orientation. He has served on numerous national boards regarding the legal rights of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

  • Levine discussed the US Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage on Insight with Beth Ruyak on June 29, 2016.
  • Levine's op-ed, "Once unimaginable, marriage equality is now established law," appeared in The Sacramento Bee California Forum on July 4, 2015.
  • Levine's op-ed, "Progress toward gay rights sometimes subtle but monumental," appeared in The Sacramento Bee's California Forum on April 18, 2015.
