Steve Hansen, '11, has been hired by the McGeorge School of Law as the Director of Capital Initiatives. Hansen will begin his new role at his alma mater on Oct. 12, 2015.
"Steve's diverse professional experience makes him the perfect person to direct our Capital Initiatives," said McGeorge Dean Francis J. Mootz III. "He will build on the influential network of alumni leaders to help our students launch their own successful careers."
Hansen holds a J.D. from McGeorge School of Law, and he earned a Certificate for Senior Executives in State and Local Government from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government in 2014. He was elected in 2012 as a Councilmember in the City of Sacramento, representing the neighborhoods of Downtown, Midtown, Land Park and River Oaks in Natomas.
"I'm thrilled to join McGeorge's effort to better connect our students and professors with the Capitol community," said Hansen, "We've got a remarkably talented pool of students and alumni who are already doing so much to shape the conversation around key policy issues, and I'm looking forward to strengthening those partnerships and opportunities."
Hansen has served on the Capital Center for Law & Policy's Advisory Board since it formed in 2012, contributing time and ideas to the formation of the Center's initiatives. He was the Senior Regional Manager for State Government Affairs at Genentech, Inc. from 2006 to 2014. His prior position was the Associate Director for Legislative Affairs at Equality California for two years.
"Through the service of alumni leaders like Steve on the Capital Center Advisory Board, the impact of our Initiatives has grown in the past four years," said Leslie Gielow Jacobs, Director of the McGeorge Capital Center. "I look forward to the new opportunities that Steve will bring to our students and to the Center."
As the Director of Capital Initiatives in the law school's Career Development Office, Hansen will lead Capital events and activities on campus and in the Capital community. He will also focus on employment networks and identifying new opportunities in and around government lawyering, public policy and government-related fields for Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Science in Law (MSL), Master of Public Policy (MPP), and Master of Public Administration (MPA) students and alumni. The MPP program will launch in fall 2016 as a full-time day program, and the MPA program will launch also in 2016 as a part-time evening program to serve working professionals.
