California State Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg gave the keynote address to the 18 new members of the McGeorge chapter of the Order of the Coif at the induction banquet on May 16, 2014.
Day Division valedictorian Gregory Hayes and Evening Division valedictorian Tara Rojas were among the academic stars of the Class of 2014 inducted into the honor society. Distinguished Professor Michael Vitiello, the chapter's president, welcomed keynote speaker Senator Steinberg. Many alumni Coif members attended the luncheon, which is open each year to all alums who are members of the organization that traces its roots to medieval England.
Stenberg encouraged the Order of the Coif inductees to take the long view on professional relationships. "How you treat people on your way to, or at the top, will dictate how people treat you when you are no longer on the top," he said.
It was the 32nd annual Order of the Coif Congratulatory Luncheon for McGeorge, which holds the 59th chapter in the 82-law school honorary society. Other schools that boast chapters in the organization include Yale, Emory, Stanford and the University of Chicago. New graduates must have finished in the top 10 percent of their classes to qualify for election to membership.
