McGeorge student Maricar Pascual was named the top oral advocate at the Western Regional of the 22nd Annual Thomas Tang Moot Court, which McGeorge hosted on Oct. 24-25, 2014.
Pascual and her partner, Caroline Soto, advanced to the competition semi-finals. Because of their excellent total scores, they have been invited to compete in the final rounds of the national tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz., in November. Regional champion USF and runner-up Cal Western also advanced. Another McGeorge team, Chelsea Tibbs and Christina Forst, was honored for crafting the second-best brief at the Sacramento regional. Erich Shiners, '06 and Professor Hether Macfarlane coached the McGeorge teams.
"As the host school, McGeorge received rave reviews from all the participants who were delighted with our organizational competence and hospitality," Professor Ed Telfeyan, the Moot Court Program director, said. "Sarah Schumacher and Elizabeth Kim, honors board members, were amazing in their role as co-chairs of the event."
California Third District Court of Appeals Justices Elena Duarte and George Nicholson and Sacramento Superior Court Judge Russell Hom comprised a distinguished jurist panel that judged the final round.
