McGeorge participated in the Yuba City Legal Aid Fair on Sunday, Sept. 9. The event was organized by 2012 McGeorge alum Steve Allred.
Law students taking the Immigration law practicum, Lawyering for Immigrants, partnered with Immigration Clinic students to conduct consultations and referrals for community members. Second year students Chelsea Tibbs, Tina Mirzazadeh and first year student Cinthia Gibson were instrumental in preparing the informational handouts in English and Spanish. Other students participating included: Jose Orta, Richard Paikoff, Whitney Clark, Qamar Fareed, Mariam Aboudamous, Vallerye Mosquera, Daman Gill and Mandeep Gill.
Individuals and families attending the Legal Aid Fair represented a diverse range of countries including India, the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
Professors Raquel Aldana and Blake Nordahl are planning additional community events which will conclude with the annual Immigration Fair at McGeorge on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013.
The next event will be on Sept. 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sacramento Food Bank's SACA Community Learning Center located at 2469 Rio Linda Blvd. in Sacramento.
The following event will be Oct. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sacramento Food Bank's main office at 3333 Third Ave. in Sacramento.
