More than 40 LLM in Transnational Business Practice graduates and international attorneys gathered on May 25-26, 2012, at the Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome for McGeorge's European Alumni Chapter reunion conference.
A welcoming reception sponsored by Giovanni Peluso, LLM '91, and his firm, Studio Legale Sammarco, opened the festivities. Adjunct professor and Dutch attorney Winfried van den Mujisenbergh, the president of the International Board of Advisors, was the keynote speaker at the conference kickoff dinner.
A second-day CLE program featured Peluso speaking on "Lawyers Liability in the EU: A Comparison with the United States," Meril Markley, LLM '84, talking about "Innovations from 14th Century France — How the World's First Energy Companies Sparked Modern Corporate Governance and Survived for 600 Years," and Professor Frank Gervurtz, the director of McGeorge's Global Center for Business & Development, discussing the "Globalization of Corporate Law."
Katharine Baragona, '90, Lloyd De Vos, Maurizio Maiano, LLM '89, Keith Pershall, LLM '95, Sidney Picker, Judge Fausto Pocar, Hans Schnur, LLM '91, and adjunct professor Joe Smallhoover were among board of advisors members in attendance.
The European Chapter has held biennial reunion conferences for nearly two decades. Recent events have taken place in Paris (2010), Vienna (2008), Copenhagen (2006), Zurich (2004) and Milan (2002).
