The 34th Annual Women's Caucus Wine Tasting and Auction on Sept. 30, 2011, raised more than $11,000 for charity. The club will donate $10,000 from the proceeds to the St. John's Women's Shelter and establish a $1,000 direct scholarship for a McGeorge student.
More than 350 students, professors, alumni and non-alumni attorneys attended the event at the California Museum. Five commercial wineries, (Van der Vijver, Cielo Estate, Miraflores, Crystal Basin Cellars, Grace Patriot), and professor Michael Vitiello's Castel Vitiello were represented at the auction. Guests were able to view a presentation of the museum's current exhibited artists, the Co-Madres Artistas, and gain entrance to other exhibits.
Live auction prizes included a Las Vegas vacation, a weekend trip to Dillon Beach, and VIP tickets to the California Museum Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which is scheduled for December 8, 2011.
The Women's Caucus charity of choice, the Sacramento-based St. John's Shelter provides homeless women and their children with food and housing. It also runs programs to enable its clients to return to self-sufficiency in the community.
Jacquelyn Flatt, '13, and club president Stacey Shelly, '12, were among the key organizers of the event. Many other members, including Allison Cross, '13, Marisa Shea, '14, Anna Kulik, '13, Nicole Volotzky, '13, Anna Semerdjian, '13, Jeremy Heebner, '13 and Rebekah Morrissey, '12, worked on the program.
The Women's Caucus is one of the oldest student clubs on campus, and the wine-tasting event has raised money for Sacramento-area charities for more than three decades. Among its long-time faculty supporters are Associate Dean Julie Davies, who works as a pourer each year at the auction.
