Two popular members of the McGeorge faculty, Professor John Sprankling and Professor Linda Carter, have been chosen for prestigious awards by the University of the Pacific.

Sprankling will receive the Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award that annually recognizes a faculty member from the entire University who fulfills the highest aspirations of scholarship and service to students, colleagues, the profession and the community. Only three other McGeorge professors, Brian Landsberg, John Myers and Carter, have been so honored in the past two decades. Sprankling, an authority on property law, has had his scholarly articles published in major law journals across the country. One of his articles was cited heavily in a recent decision of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. An accomplished classroom teacher, he is also known for holding impromptu, voluntary study sessions on the campus quadrangle for students.

Carter will receive the Podesto Award, which recognizes outstanding educators at all three campuses who directly touch and enrich the lives of Pacific students. In previous years, Associate Dean Julie Davies, Professor Thom Main and Professor Ed Telfeyan are previous recipients of the award. Carter is the director of the law school's Legal Infrastructure and International Justice Institute and chair of the International Studies Committee. In those roles, she has sought to expand post-graduate opportunities for our law students worldwide, arranging externships for numerous students with the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, among other placements. She recently led a McGeorge moot court team to a second-place national finish in an ICC competition and a berth in the world championships.

Both awards will be presented during the University's 2011 commencement and awards ceremonies the weekend of May 6-7 in Stockton.
