The Capital Center for Law & Policy held its second annual student recognition luncheon on May 10, 2011, honoring students who earned the Capital Certificate and the Capital Commendation for Public Service.
Eighteen graduating seniors completed the Capital Certificate Program, a 16-unit course of study and experiential learning designed to equip new attorneys with the skills and knowledge to succeed in government and public service careers. McGeorge has a large alumni base involved in public policy, including California Treasurer Bill Lockyer, '86, state Senators Noreen Evans, '81 and Eileen Corbett, '85, and Assemblyman Jeff Gorell, '99.
Rex Frazier, '00, an Order of the Coif graduate, member of the McGeorge Alumni Association board of directors and the president of the Personal Insurance Federation of California, gave the keynote address. He urged students to take advantage of the law school alumni network inside and surrounding the state Capitol.
More than 40 students were recognized for their community service. McGeorge offers many opportunities for students to engage in voluntary service, such as the Public Interest Clearinghouse Pro Bono Project, Public Legal Services Service, and the Education Pipeline.
Professor Leslie Gielow Jacobs is the director of the Capital Center for Law & Policy. Professor Adrienne Brungess is the director of the Capital Certificate in Public Law & Policy and Capital Commendation Program.
