Second-year Day student Shani Roark won the award for Best Closing Argument at the Seventh Annual Buffalo-Niagara National Mock Trial Competition, which was held November 11-14, 2010, in Buffalo, New York.
The Buffalo-Niagara event is the largest single-weekend mock trial competition in the country and annually features top students from many of the strongest Trial Advocacy programs. McGeorge was one of 32 law schools to field teams in the tournament.
Roark and her teammates, Clayton McCarl, Tony Danielson and Caitlin Smith, argued in the civil division of the competition that was held in the Buffalo City Court Building. They failed to advance to the quarterfinal round, but Roark's closing argument in her second case caught the judges' attention for its persuasiveness.
Roark, who hails from Salt Lake City and is a University of Utah graduate, was a co-winner of McGeorge's Ben Frantz First-Year Mock Trial Competition last spring.
