The State Bar of California honored the McGeorge Education Pipeline Initiative at its 2nd Annual Diversity Stakeholder Forum on June 5, 2009, in San Francisco. Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker accepted the 2009 State Bar Education Pipeline Award at a luncheon hosted by the State Bar Council on Access & Fairness.
The McGeorge Education Pipeline Initiative is an effort to increase the educational achievement of underrepresented youth in college graduate and professional school programs. The program provides mentorship, academic assistance and enrichment, and career guidance for K-12 students at six Sacramento area schools. Christine Minero is the director of the program, which brings together law students, law faculty and teaching professionals in a collaborative effort. Program sponsors include Downey Brand, LLP.
One of the schools in the pipeline program, Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep School, recently held its third annual commencement exercise. Thirty-four students received their high school diplomas on June 4, 2009, in a McGeorge lecture hall ceremony.
