Diana Chinn, ’10, took top honors as Best Oralist in the Thomas Tang Moot Court Western Regional on October 17, 2009, at Chapman University School of Law in Orange.
Chinn and Cheryl Shitabata, '10, advanced to the semifinal round of the competition and will be one of 16 teams from six different regionals entered in the national finals next month in Boston, Massachusetts. Mayling Leong, ’10, and Fatima Iqbal, ’11, comprised the other McGeorge entry in the field, which included teams from UCLA, Hastings, USF and several other law schools. Global Lawyering Skills professors Athena Roussos and Erich Shiners, ’06, coached and accompanied the teams.
The four students are members of the McGeorge Moot Court Honors Board, a 16-member team that will represent the law school in 10 competitions during the 2009-10 academic year. The Thomas Tang tournament, which is sponsored by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, was the first event of the season.
“These first competitors have set a high standard for the other teams that will follow them,” said Professor Ed Telfeyan, ’75, faculty advisor to the McGeorge Honors Board. “I’m especially pleased for Diana and Cheryl, and Mayling and Fatima wrote an excellent brief.”
