A moot court competition team returned home with some hardware from last month’s 11th Annual National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition at the Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu.
Jill Himlan, Allysia Holland and Preston Morgan received second-place honors for their petitioner’s brief at the October 17-19 event, which featured teams from all over the country.
Each team had the opportunity to argue novel entertainment law issues before some of the leading entertainment law lawyers in Los Angeles. In the oral arguments, the McGeorge team missed advancing to the semifinal round by a single judge’s point. Professor Jenny Darlington-Person, ’00, and Erich Shiners, ’06, coached the team.
Texas Tech won the national championship, beating the top petitioner’s brief entry South Texas College of Law in the finals. UC Hastings and Southern Methodist were the other semifinalist teams. Other schools in the 20-team field included New York Law, Michigan State, Benjamin Cardozo, Fordham and Loyola.
