An overflow crowd of family and friends looked on as 95 McGeorge graduates were sworn into membership in the State Bar of California and the federal bar on December 2, 2008 in the Lecture Hall.
The newly made lawyers were part of a larger group (214) of McGeorge grads who passed the July 2008 state bar examination, the results of which had been released 10 days ago. Many took their oaths in other parts of the state. Class of 2008 members also passed bar exams in six other states.
Justice Arthur C. Scotland,’74, of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, and Judge Connie Callahan, ’75, U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, administered the oaths of office and delivered welcoming remarks to the new attorneys.
“You’ve completed a long, arduous journey and you begin a new adventure today,” Justice Scotland said. “You’re joining an honorable profession and you’ll begin building your own reputation in it immediately. Let respect and integrity be your guiding lights.”
“I’ve always been grateful for the education I received here,” Judge Callahan said. “You’ll come to recognize the quality of that education as you go through your legal career. And if you live up to the oath you take today, you’ll have a very rewarding professional life.”
