McGeorge hosted a national security workshop on June 23, 24 at Squaw Valley on June 23-24 that brought together 25 citizen leaders and national security experts from northern California.
The issues addressed included the appropriate allocation of authority and responsibility between the federal, state, and local governments; the appropriate affect of foreign ownership of private sector entities on a security risk calculus; the nature and extent of information sharing that can and should occur to identify and mitigate risk; and the proper balance between policies that foster economic development and those that further national security. Under a major grant from the federal government, McGeorge is working to develop a curriculum based in part on this workshop that can be used to educate a broader audience on these critical topics.
Professor Joe Dhillion and program coordinator Elizabeth Vitiello directed the Squaw Valley event. Richard Shiffrin, former deputy general counsel for intelligence with the Department of Defense, was the moderator for the workshop.
