Part-time Program
At Pacific McGeorge, you may attend full-time or part-time. Law school requires six full-time semesters or eight part-time semesters. (This is referred to as the "residency requirement," and is a pre-requisite for graduation). Typically, this is three years for full-time students or four years for part-time students. Part-time students may combine summer school work to take the place of one part-time semester, in which case they graduate in three and one-half years. This requires taking at least 8 units of summer school work in programs that have a total of 70 days. A dean meets with any student interested in this approach to map out intended summer school courses and make sure the total qualifies.
Summer school is equally available to full-time students. Although summers cannot take the place of a full-time semester, taking some course work in the summer can lighten a students load during the regular year. Completing the units required for graduation results in taking between 14 and 15 units each semester. As few as 12 units can be taken while still qualifying as a full-time student, so some full-time students pursuing extra-curricular activities or wishing to give advanced material particular focus use summers to enable taking 12 or 13 units during a term.
Students may transfer from one division to the other with approval. Students wishing to transfer should meet with the Dean of Students regarding approval and satisfying degree requirements.
Typically, part-time students attend during the evening to enable regular employment. Those who have nighttime employment or family responsibilities can arrange to attend part-time during day hours. Those whose other responsibilities are extensive, may slow down the program to four and one-half or five years.
