Admission/Registration
The London Summer Program is open to graduates and students of Pacific McGeorge and Queen Mary University of London, as well as ABA-approved or state accredited law schools and fully accredited foreign law schools who have completed one year of full-time or part-time study and who are in good standing at their respective schools. Prior study in the areas covered by each course may be helpful, but is not required. The London Summer Program has inspected and accredited by the American Bar Association. Students enrolled in U.S. law schools other than Pacific McGeorge should check with their appropriate school official regarding procedures to follow for transfer of credit earned toward fulfilling degree requirements.]
Law School Credit: The University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law International Programs have been inspected by representatives of the American Bar Association and are on the approved list of programs authorized by the ABA for conduct overseas. [Students enrolled in law schools other than Pacific McGeorge should check with their appropriate school official regarding procedures to follow for transfer of credit earned toward fulfilling degree requirements.]
Participation in a foreign summer program may not meet requirements to accelerate graduation. Students should consult their home institutions for advice about residency requirements under relevant ABA standards if they are interested in acceleration.
Financial Aid: Important - If you expect to have a check from the financial aid office in Sacramento deposited into your bank account after you arrive in London, be sure to bring enough money to tide you over for several days. The Pacific McGeorge office in London cannot cash personal checks drawn on a U.S. bank. Pacific McGeorge students should discuss availability of Financial Aid with the school's Financial Aid Office.
Pacific McGeorge reserves the right to make changes in course offerings, professors, class schedules, housing, and other matters as circumstances require. In the event of a cancellation because of insufficient enrollment, sudden unavailability of facilities, or any other unforeseen circumstances, Pacific McGeorge will immediately send notice of cancellation to all registered students and refund all fees paid to the school as of the date of cancellation.
Passports/Visas
A passport is a document issued by your government allowing you to travel abroad. A visa is a permit issued by the government you are planning to visit allowing you to enter that country. Passports and visas are the responsibility of the student.
United States citizens can obtain a passport application from the nearest U.S. Department of State Passport Office or from certain State and Federal courts and post offices. For further information visit www.travel.state.gov/passport. If you lose your passport while in Europe, contact the nearest U.S. embassy immediately.
United States students and citizens of EU and Schengen countries do not need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. Students outside the U.S. can obtain further information by visiting http://www.ecdel.org.au/eu_guide/faqsvisas.htm.
To avoid any delay in obtaining your visa or passport, be sure to apply as early as possible. For the latest information from the U.S. State Dept. about travel to the United Kingdom, visit http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1765.html and click on the link for the United Kingdom.
Travel Medical Insurance
Although travel medical insurance is not required to participate in the London program, students should check their medical insurance plans to see if coverage extends while away from home. If your plan does not cover illness or emergencies while traveling outside of your country, you should investigate purchasing temporary medical insurance for non-emergency and emergency medical expenses, including coverage for emergency air transportation, which is usually quite costly. To request more information on student medical insurance policies, contact the International Programs Office at mgintprg@pacific.edu to request more information.
Accommodations and Other Policies
Every effort is made to accommodate persons with physical, medical and/or learning disabilities; however, Pacific McGeorge cannot ensure that the housing and classroom facilities used in the London Summer Program will meet the same standards for accessibility as do the facilities of the school's campus in Sacramento. Persons with disabilities that affect mobility should particularly note that historic European cities such as London may present significant barriers to mobility over which Pacific McGeorge has no control. Anyone wishing to inquire about the accommodations available in London is invited to contact the office of Pacific McGeorge International Programs, 3200 Fifth Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95817, (916) 739-7019 or toll free (800) 843-4562.
University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law maintains a long-standing policy of not discriminating in any of its activities on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, color, disability, marital status, age or religious belief. Inquiries about the school's compliance with specific federal and state statutes and regulations may be directed to the Office of the Dean, 3200 Fifth Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95817, (916) 739-7151, or to the appropriate governmental office overseeing compliance with any such statute or regulation.
