What is the LL.M in Public Law & Policy?
The Pacific McGeorge graduate program in Public Law & Policy is a one- to two-year, post-J.D. course of study and experiential learning leading to the award of a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Public Law & Policy.

Who obtains the LL.M. in Public Law & Policy?
Law school graduates who pursue the Pacific McGeorge LL.M. in Public Law & Policy come from diverse backgrounds and from many different law schools. Some already live in California, with a particular interest in working in state or local government. Others come from across the nation, and from
around the world. Interests of our students vary. Our view is that most lawyers practicing in the modern administrative and regulatory legal environment will benefit from the skills and knowledge base offered in the LL.M. in Public Law & Policy Program.
Nevertheless, the LL.M in Public Law & Policy is specifically designed for:
Recent law school graduates who seek to augment their J.D. study with an additional program of graduate work focused on government lawyering.
Those seeking preparation for a career in the public sector or in a private law firm that represents public agencies.
Experienced attorneys who want to switch the focus of their practice to government law, or want to add depth to on-the-job experience in government law with a comprehensive program of graduate study.
Lawyers with a law degree granted outside this country who seek comprehensive education in United States government systems and operations, so they may work in or with government in the United States, in the governments of their home countries, or with supranational entities.
Students earn the LL.M. in Public Law & Policy after completion of 24 units of study with a cumulative grade point average of 2.6 on a 4.3 scale. Candidates for the LL.M. in Public Law & Policy meet individually with a counselor from the Capital Center for Public Law & Policy, to craft a course of study tailored to their particular interests and designed to maximize preparation for their specific career goals.

Students study in sunny Sacramento, on a modern, safe, self-enclosed campus, only minutes away from the state’s Capitol Building and center of government operations, and just a short car ride from San Francisco’s Bay Area and other places of interest in northern California.
Pacific McGeorge faculty bring years of government service to their teaching; practitioners add to the classroom the expertise and wisdom gained from the daily give-and-take of law practice in the capital of the nation’s largest state.
Capital Center students benefit because of its prime location in the state’s capital, from the law school’s close and continuing contacts with the many government and related employers in the area. With assistance from the Pacific McGeorge Field Placement Office, LL.M. students enhance their classroom study with prime placements in courts, legislative offices, agencies, and other government law-related entities.
Capital Center LL.M. students from countries other than the United States join a community of approximately 50 foreign law students studying on the Pacific McGeorge campus, and receive special assistance with course selection, class success, and adjusting to student life in the United States.
