Public Legal Services Society
If you are considering working in public interest law PLSS can help you. Public interest jobs traditionally pay less than those in other legal fields. PLSS awards summer grants and loan repayment assistance to McGeorge students who make a financial sacrifice to serve the underprivileged in society.
What does PLSS do?
We join with the Career Development Office (CDO) and the Governmental Affairs Student Association (GASA) to sponsor the on-campus Public Interest Career Night in February. Potential employers include civil rights organizations, children’s rights advocates, the housing rights commission, government agencies, legal services for the indigent, disabled, and elderly, among others.
In March we throw a party to raise money to support the PLSS Loan Repayment Assistance and Summer Grant Programs. Each grant applicant must complete five volunteer hours to be eligible for consideration. Volunteers help us collect items for the auctions and raffle, sell tickets, and promote the event. All students are invited to attend the fun-filled evening. You will receive further information about the grant application process, requirements, and deadlines later in the fall semester.
To help create awareness of the importance of public interest work. Membership looks good on your resume and scholarship applications. You will also be involved in one of the biggest events on campus and good times are guaranteed.
