Capital Certificate Curriculum

Effective for students completing their first year of law school in 2009 or after.

Course of Study Overview

Administrative Law (3) Fall: Manson R F 10:30am - 12pm; Spring not offered

Legislation and Statutory Interpretation (3) Fall not offered; Spring: Slocum T R 4 - 5:30pm

Government Law, Theory and Practice Seminar (2) Fall not offered; Spring: J.C. Kelso T 6:15 - 8:15pm

The Public Lawyer: Theory, Professionalism and Practice Module
(students choose one of two modules, 4-5 units total)

Government and Public Law Electives (to fulfill remaining units, students choose from a number of electives that focus on aspects of lawmaking, government structure and issues related to public lawyering)

*With Emphasis In
Students may choose to obtain a Capital Certificate "with emphasis in" a particular area of public law. Students earn the "with emphasis in" designation by taking an additional two courses (four units minimum), and by concentrating their research and writing in the Government Law, Theory and Practice Seminar, in a specific substantive area. Areas of emphasis include: Business and Trade Regulation; Civil and Constitutional Rights; Criminal Justice; Employment and Labor Law; Environment, Natural Resources and Water Law; Health Law and Policy; Intellectual Property and Information Law; International and Comparative Law and Regulation; and Tax Law and Policy.
