Professor Laura Gomez, who has held prestigious fellowships at the School of American Research and the Stanford Humanities Center, will speak at 12 noon, Monday, January 14 at Pacific McGeorge. Gomez, associate dean for faculty development at the University of New Mexico, is a faculty member of both the UNM law school and its American Studies Department. She writes in the broad areas of law, race and gender. She is currently working on a book about the primary role of law, legal actors, and legal discourse during the early years of the American colonization of the Southwest. While at UCLA, she co-founded and co-directed the law school's Critical Race Studies concentration. She obtained her A.B. from Harvard College. She earned her M.A., J.D., and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University.
