Eligibility Requirements for Federal Programs

The Pacific McGeorge Financial Aid Office administers financial aid programs (Federal Direct Loans and Work-Study) to eligible applicants and students. The amount of financial aid you receive at the time of disbursement will depend on whether you meet all eligibility requirements for the awarded funds.

In order to be eligible for federal need-based financial aid, you must:

  • have demonstrated financial need;
  • be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States or provide evidence from the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) that you are in the U.S. for other than a temporary purpose with the intention of becoming a permanent resident;
  • be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis;
  • be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary education on at least a half-time basis;
  • be registered for Selective Service, if you are required to be registered;
  • never have been convicted of an illegal drug offense;
  • be making satisfactory academic progress in your studies;
  • not owe a refund on a Pell Grant, SEOG or State Student Incentive Grant; and
  • certify that you are not in default or overawarded on any Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan.

If you wish to obtain financial aid, you are strongly encouraged to complete the necessary forms to determine need. In many cases, students who believe they do not qualify for need-based aid have found that they do qualify by completion of the application process (FAFSA).
