David C. James has been named Assistant Dean for Career Development at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

A UCLA and Pacific McGeorge graduate, James was a deputy city attorney from 1984-2005 with the city of San Diego, serving as its senior hiring attorney for many of those years. He is currently the director of career development at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, and will join Pacific McGeorge in July.

James has been active in the American Bar Association and the National Association of Law Placement for nearly 20 years. He is the author of more than 40 articles on career-related topics and is a frequent speaker at law schools across the country.

“We are delighted to have a candidate of this stature join our school,” said Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker. “He knows the business from the hiring end as well as the career development end.”

James replaces Ruthe Ashley, who left the law school earlier in the year to become CalPERS’ first external relations’ diversity officer. Tim Naccarato, the assistant dean for academic programs, has served as the interim director of the law school’s career development office.
