Center for Independent Investigations in the Workplace (CIIW)

Center for Independent Investigations in the Workplace (CIIW)
"Know the facts - End the dispute."

What Does the Center For Independent Investigations in the Workplace (CIIW) Do?

The CIIW contracts with:

▪ municipalities
▪ State agencies
▪ local agencies and districts
▪ colleges and universities
▪ businesses

to provide independent investigations of discrimination and harassment claims against employers, arising under:

▪ FEHA
▪ Tilte VII
▪ ADA (disabilities)
▪ ADEA (age)
▪ policies and procedures of the employer.

CIIW investigations have two fundamental objectives:

▪ To meet the employer’s obligations under its own policies and under state and federal law to conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of discrimination and harassment claims.

▪ To provide impartial information and analysis that may enable early dispute resolution.

WHY CHOOSE THE CIIW?

Independent and neutral:

CIIW investigators are independent and neutral. They do not advocate on behalf of parties.

CIIW investigators are attorneys:

▪ All CIIW investigators are experienced
attorneys, and many of them are experienced
adjudicators.

▪ The legal expertise of the attorney investigator is used to develop and execute an individualized investigation plan specific to the circumstances of each case.

Credibility:

▪ Use of an independent investigator is important for minimizing or eliminating even the mere appearance of bias in the investigation process.

▪ Neutral and independent investigations may promote trust and cooperation in the workplace.

▪ The CIIW is a division of the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law and its nationally recognized Institute for Administrative Justice (IAJ).

Service options:

▪ Our basic service includes a comprehensive written report summarizing the information obtained in the investigation.

▪ As attorneys, the investigators are also qualified to provide, upon request, the investigators’ opinions regarding (a) witness credibility, (b) conclusions of fact and law, and (c) appropriate action.
