Serving the Community
It takes 20 years of education – from kindergarten through law school – to become a lawyer. Recently, Downey Brand LLP, Sacramento’s largest law firm, generously contributed $50,000 to the Wingspread P20Educational Pipeline Initiative, a local and national effort to encourage minority students to pursue higher – ideally a legal – education.
Pacific McGeorge has supported Wingspread P20 since its 2004 inception, and currently more than 40 law schools and 50 other entities including the American Bar Association, Wal-Mart, Intel, CalPERs and Downey Brand LLP, are assisting in the effort to reach minority students early in their educational path.
Despite the implementation of affirmative action and similar programs, only 10% of students currently admitted to the bar are minorities – yet minority populations continue to grow. The Wingspread P20 Initiative seeks to ensure that the diversity of tomorrow’s leadership will better reflect future demands.
Pacific McGeorge believes that true community service extends beyond addressing today’s needs or issues – it’s helping plant the seeds of tomorrow’s change through educational mentoring and reform.
