Campus Resources for LLM Students

The 13.5-acre campus of Pacific McGeorge, which is completely dedicated to the study of law, has the atmosphere and most of the resources of a small village. This makes it unique among American law schools, most of which consist of one building situated on a much larger university campus. All campus resources are available to Pacific McGeorge students and are intended to enhance their educational experience by promoting an atmosphere conducive to learning. The staff are dedicated to maximizing the educational experience of every Pacific McGeorge student, and they welcome inquiries from prospective students about the services they offer.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office processes student loans, work/study positions, scholarships, grants and other financial awards. Detailed information about application and notification procedures, eligibility criteria, student budgets, and other financial data are contained in a Financial Aid Handbook that is available from the Financial Aid Office. International students who are studying in the United States on student visas should be aware that most student loans and financial awards can only be made to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The International Programs office can provide information about organizations that award grants or loans to international students. In addition, partial tuition scholarships are sometimes awarded by the International Programs office to well qualified international students with demonstrated financial need. In general, however, international students should be aware that they will need to fund most of their education at Pacific McGeorge through their own resources.

Housing and Recreation

Pacific McGeorge has 157 on-campus apartments, including studios and one- and two-bedroom units; all are owned and maintained by the school. These are rented to students on a first-come, first-served basis. All campus housing units have access to free high-speed Internet cable. LLM students wishing to live on campus should submit a request to the Housing Director as soon as possible after being accepted to the LLM program. For those unable to be accommodated on campus, the Housing Director also maintains lists of suitable affordable off-campus housing in desirable locations, some within walking distance of the school campus. Housing costs in Sacramento tend to be lower than in other large cities in California.

The Housing Director also maintains a Recreation Center for all students that includes a swimming pool, ping-pong table, fully-equipped exercise room, and locker room. There is an outdoor basketball half-court on campus, and there are televisions in the Student Center and Recreation Center. It's a good place to meet other students on campus.

Library

The Gordon D. Schaber Law Library has roughly 500,000 volumes and a wide range of research systems. In addition to an extensive international collection, the library has two professional law librarians dedicated to international law research. All Pacific McGeorge students receive free Lexis and Westlaw accounts, and the library provides regular training sessions for students in the use of these electronic legal research tools. The Information Commons room has computer terminals with fast Internet access and printing capabilities for the use of all students. The Library Research Network in the Library Reference Room provides instant access to the entire library collection and to other databases. In addition, wireless Internet access is available in the Main Reading Room and at every seat in every Pacific McGeorge classroom.
