Faculty members and some students, such as faculty research assistants, law review students and JSD students, have different borrowing privileges. Please contact the  Circulation/Reference Librarian if you have questions about your borrowing privileges.

Renewals

Most items can be renewed a total of two times. If you have already renewed your items twice, you will not be able to renew them again.

You can renew your items by:

  • Bringing your library card to the Circulation or Reserve desks and asking that your items be renewed.
  • Telephoning the Circulation Desk at 916-739-7131.
  • Renewing online via GOCAT.

Recalls and Holds

Patrons may request that the Library place a hold on or recall an item. Items that have a hold placed on them may not be renewed. Items that are recalled may remain with the patron for the regular loan period (2 week for treatise, 2 hours for reserve) after which they must be returned to the Library. To place a hold on or to recall an item, please contact the  Circulation Supervisor (916-739-7328).

Fines and Blocked Privileges

Overdue fines are:

  • $0.25 per day per item for non Reserve & non-Reference materials
  • $1.00 per day per item for Reserve & Reference materials

Checkout privileges will be blocked if:

  • a Reserve item is overdue,
  • five or more other items are overdue,
  • a recalled item is not returned, or
  • if the total amount of fines on your record reaches $10.00.

Fines may be paid at either the Circulation or Reserve Desks.

If you have any questions or concerns about fines, please contact the  Circulation Supervisor (916-739-7328).

Individuals are personally responsible for all items checked out on their card. This includes overdue fines and charges for lost or damaged materials. Do not lend your card to another person. Charges for lost and damaged materials will include a $20 processing fee per item.

If you have any questions concerning Circulation Services, you may contact the
