Trial Advocacy Preference Form
Trial Advocacy will be offered during the Spring Semester of 2012 in five sections. SENIORS, DEC. '12 GRADUATION CANDIDATES & ADVOCACY CERT. CANDIDATES have preference; if any vacancies remain, other students who have completed Evidence or are presently enrolled in Evidence may be admitted. EVENING students have preference for the Tuesday and Thursday evening sections, but Day students should also include that section in their listing of preferred section times. Evening students should also include any day sections they can do.
For the first 12 weeks, the course will meet for one hour per week in the Courtroom for lecture and demonstration. These will be held on Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students may attend either lecture regardless of the section in which you are enrolled. You will also meet for an additional two hours per week with your section for student excercises. (See below for class days and times.) The last two weeks of the semester are devoted to day-long trials, scheduled Monday through Saturday.
ENROLLMENT WILL BE LIMITED TO A TOTAL OF 48 STUDENTS. All students who sign up will be “registered” for the course, but the actual “enrollment” will not be decided until all such “registrants” have been received. Then, in the event of “over-registration,” a lottery will be used to determine who will be actually admitted to the course and “enrolled.” The lottery will be conducted as follows:
- Students wishing to take Trial Advocacy should register for the course, not for a specific section. Students must indicate their preferences for sections on the form below. Each student will have one place in the lottery.
- Seniors, December '12 graduation candidates and Advocacy Cert. Candidates have preference; Evening Division students will be given preference for the Tuesday and Thursday evening sections, but Day studnets should also include that section in their listing of preferred section times.
- Subject to the preferences stated above, each student will be given his or her first choice of section unless that section is already filled: then, second choice, etc. A student will be "bumped" from the course only in all sections chosen by the student are already filled.
