This Chicago native can thank a very famous Illinois native for inspiring her to pursue law - Abraham Lincoln. She recalls it well - "I was in the third grade and we were learning about President Lincoln. I found out he was an attorney and right then and there decided I wanted to be just like him." While Theresia was born in Chicago, Illinois, she was temporarily uprooted to Sudan, Africa, but returned in time for school, this time in California. After high school, the Chicago winds pulled her back, and she attended the University of Chicago as a psychology major. While she enjoyed the return to her hometown initially, eventually the 40 below freezing winters took their toll, and she began to dream again of sunny California. She applied to law schools in Sacramento and Chicago, but once she visited Pacific McGeorge, "I was pretty sure it was for me!" She recalls the friendliness of the students and the faculty, and with the school's close proximity to the Capitol, thought it ideal for pursuing a career in public interest law to help out those who cannot help themselves. Her absolute dream job is either working for the UN or for the ACLU, but as she says, "First step lawyer, next step, well, I'm getting ahead of myself...!"
