Globalizing the Law School Curriculum Training Workshop – January 3, 2007 (Washington, DC)

[  Program ]

The workshop targeted instructors interested in incorporating "global issues" into their Civil Procedure, Property, Contracts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law or Torts classes, but who felt that they needed background knowledge.

The workshop lasted one day. The morning session was devoted to an overview of International and Comparative Law by Professors Stephen McCaffrey, of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and Mathias Reimann, of the University of Michigan School of Law.

Following the morning session, there were a discussion of alternative curricular approaches - from special courses through integration of materials into traditional core courses.

The rest of the afternoon was devoted to subject specific concurrent break-out groups in which attendees received an introduction to the impact of international and comparative law on:

Civil Procedure
Constitutional Law
Contracts
Criminal Law and Procedure
Property
Torts

These breakout sessions were taught by faculty who have written on the international or comparative law aspects of these subjects.
