Inter-School Competitions
Pacific McGeorge students compete in moot court competitions across the nation and around the world.
Moot court develops both written and oral advocacy skills as each competition requires the preparation of an appellate brief and oral argument. Students argue their case before a panel of competition judges in multiple rounds. Awards are typically given for best briefs, best oral argument and best team performance. Some competitions select the best teams from regional competitions to advance to a national or international competition phase.
Students are eligible to apply for moot court at the end of their second or third year for the following academic year. The application process starts with a solicitation meeting held in the spring of each year. Applicants are judged by: their grades in their written and oral advocacy courses, their work on law review, their overall GPA, and in some cases, an audition. Successful applicants become members of the Moot Court Honors Board for the following academic year.
Most Moot Court Honors Board members will compete in two competitions and will be responsible for committee work to further the goals of the Board. This committee work includes organizing and running the First Year Moot Court Competition.
For the 2011-2012 season, twenty-two members of the McGeorge Moot Court Honors Board will compete in twelve competitions. They will be assisted by four research assistants. The competitions are:
