Consortium on Law and Strategic Security
[Upcoming Events] [Contact Us]The Consortium on Law and Strategic Security strives to reduce security threats posed by weapons of mass destructions through the rule of law. The Consortium’s particular focus is on preventing misuse of biological pathogens. To that end, it supports efforts of the United Nations and other organizations to stanch WMD proliferation, and it builds extensive global networks for engaging communities of legal academics, law enforcers, scientists, and policy makers in order to advance the global campaign for preventing biological terrorism.
Pacific McGeorge is a key member of the Consortium headed by Professor Barry Kellman at DePaul College of Law in Chicago Illinois. Recent joint efforts have focused on the study of United Nations Resolution 1540 which requires all member states to adopt effective measures and legal frameworks to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. A first round of conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2004 where the policy and the academic communities discussed implications of the newly enacted resolution. In June of 2005, a small expert advisory group met in New York City to plan for a September round table discussion on the Resolution engaging the United Nations, academicians, lawyers and policy makers.
