Other IAJ Programs
The IAJ also operates several programs by contract with government entities. Those programs include:
California Parole Advocacy Program: By contract with the State Board of Prison Terms, the IAJ has formed the California Parole Advocacy Program (CalPAP). CalPAP is responsible for providing legal representation to parolees in an estimated 80,000 hearings each year. For this massive undertaking, the IAJ has established CalPAP offices in 11 locations throughout the state. The IAJ maintains an extensive staff for this program, and also trains and independently contracts with approximately 500 attorneys.
Nationwide Training Programs: The IAJ contracts with state and federal agencies to provide training for governmental personnel, including administrative law judges, hearing officers, investigators, expert witnesses, and case presenters. Federal clients have included the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Army Civilian Appellate Review Agency, and the Federal Child Support Enforcement Agency. California agencies contracting with the IAJ have included the Department of Rehabilitation, the Youthful Offenders Parole Board, and the Department of Food and Agriculture. All of the hundreds of Social Security Hearing Officers in the United States have been trained by the IAJ at its training facility in Sacramento.
