Gerald Caplan, Former Dean and Professor of Law

Professor CaplanProfessor Caplan, prior to serving as Pacific McGeorge's dean for nine years, enjoyed a distinguished legal career in government. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, general counsel for the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia in the early 1970s and, from 1973-1977, was the director of the National Institute of Justice of the U.S. Department of Justice. He has served as interim president of the Legal Services Corporation (1982) and Deputy Director of the FTC's Consumer Protection Bureau (1991-92).

Recent publications: Professor Caplan has written widely on issues relating to criminal justice and police practices. His most recent work is an essay on Justice Holmes.
