Bio

Raihane Dalvi, a first generation American with dual French-American citizenship, has experience in local, state, and national politics, but it is the model of her aunt Josiane, a renowned attorney in Tahiti, which had perhaps the greatest impact on Raihane's decision to pursue law. She graduated in December of 2015, and currently works at a boutique law firm, Baydaline & Jacobsen, whose practice focuses exclusively on general counsel representation of community organizations.

"I like it because it's a good mix of corporate and property law," says Raihane.

Raihane attended UC San Diego before interning for Congresswoman Doris Matsui in Washington, D.C., followed by a fellowship at the California State Capitol with Assemblyman Richard Pan. "I enjoyed analyzing bills and amendments and being part of statewide change," says Raihane. "The atmosphere was thrilling, but I realized about halfway through the fellowship that I wanted to have the tools to actually draft the nuances of law."

Before attending law school at McGeorge, Raihane furthered her political experience working in Mayor Kevin Johnson's office as the Assistant to the Chief of Staff. "As a Sacramento native, I really enjoyed my job and giving back to my hometown," says Raihane.

Raihane served as an Executive Board Member of the McGeorge Public Legal Services Society (PLSS) during her third year of law school.

McGeorge was a good fit for Raihane because of its proximity to family in the Sacramento and San Francisco area, where she also enjoys running and hiking, and at McGeorge she also discovered professors who have become mentors. "It's great to know I can approach someone to receive advice about school and my career," she says.

She completed a summer associate program at Weintraub Tobin, a private firm in Sacramento, which helped her decide her career path after graduation. "It was my first time working in a private law firm, and I absolutely loved it," says Raihane. "I got to work in different legal areas and discovered that I loved transactional work, such as corporate law and estate planning." Her goal to work in a private firm after she graduates was achieved in April 2016.

In this goal, Raihane remembers and honors her aunt Josiane, who died of cancer during law school. "She was a partner in her own law firm, she worked hard, and she loved her job," says Raihane. "She encouraged me to pursue higher education, and I have always wanted to be like her."
