Pacific McGeorge Will Host Judicial Ethics Conference

March 16, 2010

As the 2010 installment of its Ethics Across the Professions Initiative series, Pacific McGeorge will host a two-day symposium on judicial ethics on Friday, April 9, and Saturday, April 10.

"Judicial Ethics and Accountability: At Home and Abroad" will feature legal experts addressing the issues of ethics, accountability and independence for the judiciary in America and worldwide. The forum is open to the public with a general admission of $40. MCLE credit totaling 10 hours is available to attorneys who attend both days of the conference.

The ethics series, which began in 2006, is sponsored by a grant from the Sierra Health Foundation. The series is designed to bring professionals and academics from a wide range of fields together with the public to focus in a multi-disciplinary manner on ethics issue. This year's symposium is co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Northern California, Sacramento Chapter.

"After a year in which a new justice was confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court made a ruling that has the potential to transform judicial elections across the country, and sanctions were considered for judges because of internet postings, this symposium topic is quite timely," said Professor Paul Paton, the director of the Ethics Across the Professions Initiative.
