Federal Court Hosts Final Four

For the first time in its history, the Pacific McGeorge Final Four Competition will be held at the Robert T. Matsui U.S. Courthouse in downtown Sacramento. Rebecca White Berch, the vice chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, will preside over the 2009 Appellate and International Advocacy event at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 2. Second-year students Cathleen Penney and Luke Hendrix will represent the appellant, and classmates Cody Drabble and Jessalee Samara will argue as the appellees. Each emerged as a final-round participant and winner of the Diana P. Scott Prize for outstanding moot court achievement after the program’s preliminary rounds. Justice Berch will be joined on the bench by two distinguished alumni jurists. Judge Morrison England, Jr., ’83, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California, will host the competition in his courtroom. Justice Arthur Scotland, ’74, the presiding justice of California’s Third District Court of Appeal, will complete the three-judge panel.
