Black History Month Program

In recognition of Black History Month, Pacific McGeorge will honor the role of women in the Civil Rights Movement with a special program on Thursday, February 26 in the lecture hall. Constance Iona Slaughter-Harvey, the first African American female graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law, will speak following a 4:30 p.m. showing of a movie, “Standing on Our Sisters’ Shoulders.” She has served as a staff attorney for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, executive director of Southern Legal Rights and director of Mississippi Legal Services. She will be joined by Betty Pearson, a veteran civil rights worker who speaks in her capacity as a representative of the Civil Rights Commission in the film. This event is free and open to the public.
