Proposition 8 Debate Set

October 10, 2008

Two high-profile national figures in the battle over same-sex marriage will stage a public debate on Proposition 8 at 3 p.m., Friday, October 10 in Classroom C.

Lynn Wardle, a professor at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, will argue the merits of the state constitutional law amendment initiative with John Lewis, one of the San Francisco plaintiffs in the case that the California Supreme Court used to make its historic marriage equality ruling in May.

Wardle has written numerous books and articles on the topic of sexuality and the law. His recent debate stops on the same-sex marriage subject include the Yale Law School, University of Virginia Law School, and Ohio State University Moritz School of Law.

The Pacific McGeorge debate is being sponsored by the McGeorge Federalist Society, Lambda La Students Association, and the J. Reuben Clark Society.
